Sailcom Year-end Regatta on Lake Zurich

Year end regatta 2025

This weekend, the Sailcom Regatta took place. All our J0s from Zurich and the one from Rapperswil were complemented by a RaceGroup Yngling and additional J70s from our affiliated Seeclub Enge to form a fleet.

In the morning, we had to wait for sufficiently stable wind to start a regatta according to the rules. Thomas Moser from Seeklub Enge, a very experienced regatta director, assisted us, accompanied by Jan Wild, the head of the Sailcom Race Group. After lunch, the boats set sail, the sails were trimmed, and the regatta atmosphere quickly developed. Besides seasoned sailors, there were also several newcomers who listened attentively to fulfill their roles well. The wind had not yet fully shifted south as announced, so there was a bit of a wait. Due to the summery weather, many swam between the boats to cool off, a cheerful hustle and bustle – with an abrupt end: Suddenly, the horn sounded. Wind strength and directional stability were sufficient for a start. Organizer Katja Hürlimann just made it on board (but the swimming ladder was forgotten, so the first leg was somewhat leisurely). Start! A fine wind, clearly noticeable yet challenging, requiring precise course and sail adjustments to follow it exactly. Shortly before the end of the first leg, there were a good 4 Beaufort for a few seconds; just like that, out of nowhere – that’s the unique, fascinatingly wondrous thing about Lake Zurich… 🙂 The second leg was similar: gentle wind and those few seconds of 4 Bf, imported from the Sihl Valley. But this time, there wasn’t wind everywhere; some patches of calm drifted lazily across the lake, meaning that besides skill, a bit of luck was also needed.

The day ended with a joyful gathering, the prize-giving ceremony (a fun regatta, so no official ranking for brevity), and dinner at the Seeclub Enge clubhouse, with great hospitality.
